Hello there. You've reached the personal site of Simon Mullis.

Personal

I'm over 40, married to Anna, and we live in Amsterdam in the Netherlands. I'm originally from Oxford in the UK. We have a daughter and a son, Phoebe and Miles. When I'm not working, playing with technology, I love to play the bass guitar (I've been playing for around 30 years now), and cook (Nom nom nom...).

Professional

I attended the University of Sussex in Brighton, England and received a BSc in Chemistry; it was at this point I realised I never, ever wanted to see a test-tube or use a bunsen-burner again and gave up on that, moving into IT as a career at around the same time this Internet thing started becoming reasonably well known in popular culture ('95 / '96-ish).

I spent a lot of time in my youth poking around on either a ZX Spectrum, a Commodore Amiga 500 or my Dad's Compaq luggable (with a fab amber screen). I was a regular on a number of Bulletin Boards both in the UK and across Europe from the late 80s onwards.

The internet found me in 1994, and here is my first ever post (back when the World-Wide-Web was considered "new-fangled", elm was my mail client, Gopher was cutting edge and tin is where I spent most of my time.)

Since then, I've worked for a number of technology startups in various pre-sales and post-sales roles: Sales Engineer, Developer, Systems Admin, Consultant (in no particular order). From mid-2006 to 2012 I worked for Juniper Networks initially working with the Layer 7 load balancers and WAN Acceleration products and then specialising in the Security products (Firewalls, SRX, Intrusion Detection and so on). After 4 years working with a great bunch of people at FireEye, I had the great pleasure of working for Palo Alto Networks for a couple of years. I am now delighted to be working for Tanium.
